Longtime MLB pitchers top the fantasy retirement player list

The 2026 Major League Baseball season is around the corner and many players have left the field for retirement.

For decades I have played fantasy baseball and tracked those who have performed. So at the beginning of the season I like to make a list of those who have retired and commemorate how they performed in my lineups.

One of the most notable players who has left the mound for the couch is former Los Angles Dodger Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw leaves my list ranked 32nd with 2,796 fantasy points in 84 weeks for a fantasy average of 33.28 points.

Max Fried replaces Kershaw in 32nd place.

Next on my retirement list is longtime Atlanta Brave Charlie Morton. Morton also pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros, Tampa Bay Rays, Baltimore Orioles and the Detroit Tigers. He will be remembered by Braves fans for pitching in the World Series on a broken leg. He leaves my line up in 41st place with 2,018 points in 65 weeks for a fantasy average of 31.04. Hunter Greene replaces Morton in 41st place.

Madison Bumgarner officially joins the retirement list. He pitched for the San Francisco Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks. He spent 52 weeks on my fantasy lineups scoring 1,373.5 points for a 26.41 average and was ranked 75th. Former Giant pitcher Joey Lucchesi replaces him in in 75th.

Another longtime pitcher, Zack Greinke joins the retirement list. Like Bumgarner he last pitched in 2023. Greinke pitched for the Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Angels, Dodgers, Diamondbacks and the Houston Astros, before rejoining the Royals and ending his career. He spent 71 weeks on my fantasy teams, scoring 1,845.7 points for a 25.99 average. He leaves in 77th place and is replaced by Jose Quintana.

Former Chicago Cub pitcher Kyle Hendricks is also leaving the game. In addition to the Cubs, Hendricks spent one year with the Angels. I selected him for 55 weeks on my fantasy team. he scored 1,371 points for a 24.92 FPA. He was a member of my 211.7 FP winning lineup. He leaves in 87th place and will be replaced by Angel pitcher Jack Kochanowicz.

Keeping with the theme of retiring pitchers, Ross Stripling is retired. He pitched for the Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, Giants and Oakland A’s. He appeared on my teams a total of 29 weeks and scored 693.5 points for a 23.91 FPA. He leaves my list in 95th place and is replaced by Andrew Heaney.

But not for long as Heaney is also retiring. The long time pitcher played for the Miami Marlins, Angels, New York Yankees, Dodgers, Rangers, Pirates and back to the Dodgers. He played on my teams for a total of 27 weeks, scoring 644 fantasy points for a FPA of 23.85. After occupying the 95th place for a moment on my list, he is replaced by James Kapriellian.

Another pitcher leaving the game is Alex Wood. Wood pitched for the Atlanta Braves, Dodgers, Reds, San Francisco Giants and the Oakland A’s. He won a World Series Ring with the Dodgers. He was on my fantasy team 45 weeks and scored 1,012.8 points for an average of 22.50. He leaves in 115th place. He is replaced by third baseman Addison Barger of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Former Philadelphia Phillies Jean Segura is stepping away from the game. I selected the second baseman 24 times on my team. He scored 275.54 points for a 11.48 FPA and was a member of my 243.9 winning team. He was ranked in 263rd place and is replaced by Jordan Westburg.

Former New York Yankee outfielder Aaron Hicks is retired. Hicks played on my team 26 times scoring 291.4 fantasy points for a 11.20 FPA. He vacates the 272nd position and is replaced by the Braves Austin Riley.

Former San Diego Padre Travis Jankowski has retired and will be a coach for the Texas Rangers. Jankowski was an outfielder and appeared in my lineup 16 times, scoring 166.38 points for a FPA of 10.39. He leaves my lineup in 309th place and is replaced by Ryan McMahon.

Former outfielder Stephen Piscotty has retired and plans to be a coach for the A’s, the team he last played for. He appeared in my lineup 10 times, scored 102.48 points for an average of 10.28 fantasy points. He leaves in 313th place and is replaced by Ceddanne Rafaela.

Former Washington Michael A. Taylor is joining the retirement list. Taylor also played fr the Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Twins and Pittsburgh Pirates. He appeared on my team 27 times, scored 232.68 points fr a FPA of 8.61. He leaves ranked 359th and is replaced by Christian Bethancourt.

Longtime catcher Martin Maldonado has retired after 15 years. Maldonado played with the Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Angels, Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, Chicago Cubs, White Sox and the Padres. He appeared on my team 25 times as he was a low cost fantasy option. He scored 153.36 points for a FPA of 6.13. He leaves the 384th slot and is replaced by Luke Williams.
