One of my DraftKings Pick 6 lineups came up two bases short of being a $25 winner.
The lineup based on the April 18, 2025 Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Chicago Cubs game, I thought was doomed to be a loser as the sixth inning went by.
But the Cubs added new meaning to the 7th inning stretch, as they erupted for five runs. As a result, I had two green circles as Diamondbacks’ Eugenio Suarez had completed his homer obligation and Cubs’ Michael Tucker had touched two bases.
However, going into the 8th inning I still believed with two of six circles completed, the chances of a win was bleak.
But the Diamondbacks had an eruption of their own, scoring 10 runs in the top half of the 8th inning.
As a result Lourdes Gurriel Jr., knocked in a RBI, and Josh Naylor completed his two base obligation.
As the bottom of the 8th inning begin, I still needed Seyia Suzuki to touch two bases and Dansby Swanson to get two points by base hit, run and or RBI.
To my shock the Cubs kept the scoring going and before I knew it Suzuki was at the plate needing two bases. Well he got four after he blasted a homer.
Then with a runner on first and one out, one of my former Atlanta Braves, Swanson, came to the plate. If he could hit safely and drive the runner home, I would make bank.
Well he got a single but not the RBI.
So now I needed Swanson to score to complete what would be a successful Pick 6. But it wasn’t to be as the Cubs stranded Swanson at second and went on to win the game 13-11.
So my bid for $25 fell two bases short. One reason I don’t bet big, it would be devastating to fall two bases short while trying to win $1000s.
