I sent off my fourth grading submission to Beckett this week and my sixth overall this year.
I mail this one as I continue to wait for the results of the Degree submissions and one Beckett submission.
This submission includes three Jaxson Dart football cards, a Jackson Holliday card, Max Scherzer, Miguel Sano, Derek Jeter and Chris Sale.
Meanwhile I continue to sell some of the cards I have received back for more than what the market says they should sell for.
I sold a 2017 Jose Altuve 9 mint for $40 while the most recent sale of a PSA 10 is $19.99.
My 2017 Topps Heritage Houston Astros 9.5 Gem Mint card sold for $40. The PSA 10 most recent sale price is $19.99.
My 2000 Topps Hank Aaron 1957 reprint 9 Mint sold for $40. The most recent sell price for a PSA 9 is $3.25.
The 2000 Topps Barry Bonds 1993 MVP card 8.5 NM sold for $40. The closest comparison I can find is the 1992 MVP card PSA 10 that sold for $30.99.
I also sold my 1997 Fleer Pedro Martinez 8.5 NM for $40. The closest comparison I find for that is the PSA 10 that sold for $69.22.
So my sale may be in line with that one considering the difference in grade.
Now I figure most people would not have paid $40 for the cards listed above for many reasons including the fact that they are not PSA. But most people in the hobby now days are flippers and not true collectors. A true collector will buy a card that they want for a price they consider reasonable because they are not worrying about a profit to be made tomorrow.
My cards were purchased by a collector and they will probably sit in a safe for years. One day they will be pulled out by someone and they will be in the same preserved condition that I left them in. And there will be a buyer who won’t care that they are Beckett graded instead of PSA. That buyer will be a collector who will be thrilled to find cards of some of the greats, and in this case a couple of Astros, that are in 8.5-9.5 condition.
One more comment, I do not understand those who pay $15 or $20 to have a card graded and then sell it for $3.
I would only do that if I was in desperate need of funds and needed to liquidate. Selling a graded card for $3 apparently influences the market to where everyone thinks they should be able to buy that card for $3.
Just my thoughts.
