It has been a long time coming but I finally made my first card grading submission this week.
Since the technology came in to play, I have always been somewhat negative on the idea of grading cards
But after years of making excuses, I finally decided it was time.
After deciding I was going to do it, I then had to decide what company I was going to send to.
There are many on the playing field now, including a newer company called TAG.
I did not choose them this time, but I believe I will give them a try in the future.
But for now I went with Beckett despite a card market that screams PSA.
For me I grew up buying Beckett price guide magazines. So to me Beckett will always be the leader. Plus I’m in Oklahoma and Beckett is four hours away, so the shipping trip for the cards is shorter.
After deciding that I was going to do this, the next step was deciding which cards to grade.
I decided not to go with one that I believe will make me an instant millionaire but instead a group of cards that I may or may not sell.
I also decided to pick a player from each team. However, I can’t afford to submit that many cards per order, so I started at the top of the alphabet and worked my way down until the budget was met, or exceeded a bit.
I also decided that since the Atlanta Braves are my team, one Braves card will be submitted each time as well as one football card.
The Braves card submitted in this order is the 2025 Bowman Chrome Mega Hurston Waldrep rookie card. Waldrep has been a shining star in a dark Atlanta Braves season. With all the starting pitchers on the injured list, Waldrep has stepped up. He helped the Braves win the Speedway game, also known as their 2025 playoff game. I think Waldrep has a bright future and hopefully it will be in a Braves uniform.
The football card I submitted is the 2011 Prestige Connections Materials Matt Cassel and Dwayne Bowe, numbered #1 of 250. It is a nice little gem that features a piece of the Kansas City Chiefs jerseys worn by the pair.
Most of the other cards submitted are relatively common, including a 2017 Topps Albert Pujols as my Angels submission and 2017 Topps Jose Altuve as my Astros submission.
I also submitted a 2020 Topps Chrome Update Bo Bichette as my Blue Jay submission and a 2020 Topps Opening Day Nico Hoerner rookie card as my Cubs submission.
The three other cards may be a tad over common status.
I submitted a 2024 Topps Now Dave Stewart and Rickey Henderson card. With the death of Henderson and the death of the Oakland A’s, I believe this card could have the potential to become a sought item of Oakland and Henderson fans as well as Stewart fans.
For the Cardinal fan, I submitted a 2021 Leaf Draft Nolan Gorman and for the fan of the Brewers I submitted a 2021 Topps Chrome Update Platinum Player Die Cuts.
The one thing I failed to do was take a photo of the submissions. Rookie mistake I guess, but very bad on my part.
Now we wait at least 45 days for results. Meanwhile the debate about the next group of cards that will be submitted begins.
