The year is 2007 and week eight of the National Football League is about to kick off.
I’m about to participate in another week of fantasy football since starting the hobby in 2002.
My top ranked players of the past five years going into the week are former Oklahoma Sooner running back and current NF rookie Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings.
In week seven, Peterson earned 47 fantasy points against the Chicago Bears. He scored three touchdowns and logged 228 yards.
This week he will go against the Philadelphia Eagles averaging 22.8 fantasy points per game.
In second place is Oakland Raider’s quarterback Daunte Culpepper, who was held to one touchdown in week seven against against the Kansas City Chiefs. In week eight he will make his fifth start of the season against the Titans in Tennessee. He goes into the game averaging 21.54 fantasy points in 22 selections.
Carolina Panther’s wide receiver Steve Smith with an average total of 21.29 fantasy points, is third on my list. Smith got rest last week in the bye week but will be ready to go against the Colts.
Super Bowl Champion quarterback Peyton Manning is fourth in my list, averaging 21.23 fantasy points per game. He will lead the Colts into Carolina to take on the Panthers.
New England Patriot Randy Moss climbs into my top-10 with a 30-point performance against the Dolphins. He caught two touchdowns and gained 122 yards. He moves into fifth place with a 20.5 fantasy point average. This week Moss and the Patriots will take on the Redskins in New England.
Eagle’s running back Brian Westbrook is sixth on my list with a 20.26 fantasy point average. Westbrook and the Eagles will take on the Vikings this week.
San Diego Charger running back LaDainian Tomlinson is seventh place with an average of 19.81 fantasy points. He is coming off a big week against the Raiders, in which he scored four touchdowns and rushed for 198 yards. This week the Houston Texans come to town.
Falling from fifth to eighth place is Washington Redskins’ running back Clinton Portis with an average of 19.54 fantasy points.
Portis had a tough week agains the Green Bay Packers. He then was held to just 43-yards against the Cardinals, but managed two touchdowns. He should play a key part this week agains the Patriots.
Tied with Portis for eighth place is Rams’ wide receiver Tory Holt. Holt will be in action against the Cleveland Browns.
Ninth on my list is San Francisco 49er running back Frank Gore with an average of 19.26 fantasy points. Gore did not score last week against the Giants and was held to 88 yards. This week the Saint’s travel to the west coast to take on the 49ers. I look for Reggie Bush and Gore to display their talents.
Rounding out the top-10 is Patriot’s quarterback Tom Brady, who is averaging 19.25 fantasy points. Since adding Moss to the roster, Brady has been on fire. He scored 38 fantasy points against the Dolphins last week, passing for 354 yards. He scored 37 points the week before. This week Brady and the Pats will take on Portis and the Redskins.
My top ranked kicker is Adam Vinatieri averaging 10.17 points.
The Buffalo Bills defense is my top ranking defense. The moved into the top spot two weeks earlier with the assistance of Dallas Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo. The Bill scored 33 fantasy points and now average 10.55 fantasy points per game. They will take on the Jets this week.
My top-10 fantasy studs for the 2007 season so far are Brady, 29.4 fantasy points; Moss, 24.5 FP; Peterson, 22.83 FP; Brett Favre, 19.5 FP; Dallas Clark 18.4 FP; Derrick Mason, 17 FP; Portis, 15.25 FP; Minnesota Vikings defense, 14.5 fantasy points; Bush. 14.25 FP and Culpepper, 14 FP.
